The Mississippi Art Colony has a long tradition of bringing artists together to paint, learn, share ideas, and encourage one another in their creative journeys under the tutelage of a visiting artist. Now, thanks to the generosity of a donor who believes strongly in preserving the artistic legacy of Colony, we are honored to have establish the Mississippi Art Colony Permanent Collection.
The Permanent Collection was created to preserve artwork made by Colony members and to provide a lasting record of the creativity and talent that have been part of the Colony throughout its history. Each piece selected for the collection represents not only the individual artist who created it, but also a moment in the ongoing story of the Mississippi Art Colony.
This award will be presented at each Colony session, twice each year, with the winning artwork selected by that session’s visiting artist. The visiting artist is invited to choose a work that exemplifies the Best in Show of works submitted for The Traveling Show.
To be eligible for the award, an artist must be a current member of the Mississippi Art Colony and must not have received the Permanent Collection Award within the previous three years. This allows the collection to grow to include the work of many different Colony artists over time.
As the collection develops, it will become a lasting testament to the artists who have gathered at Colony and to the creative community they have helped build. We are deeply grateful to the donor whose vision and generosity have made this opportunity possible. Through the Permanent Collection, the work created at the Mississippi Art Colony today can become part of its history and remain for generations of artists and art lovers to discover and enjoy.
